So okay I am not a huge fan of the MOTUC line, personally I think that the sculpts just aren't as nice as the much more detailed and unique ones from the 200x line and the fact that they are all pretty much the same size (mainly due to Mattel being cheap and reusing 99% of the parts) just makes them all look bland and samey, but you know what I decided to hell with it I will get one and see how I feel after actually seeing one in the flesh.
Well I have to say my opinion has not really changed.
As you can probably work out I finally settled on Hordak. Why? you ask...ok you didn't ask but I am going to to tell you anyway...I got him cuz I fucking love Hordak and think he rocks. Seriously in the MOTU universe Hordak is the greatest damn character by far. Still anyway I went onto matty and shockingly had a really easy time getting him.
Then I waited for a while totally expecting to wait a bloody long time (judging by other peoples wait times and the fact a volcao had messed up plane travel) but no I got him shockingly fast actually and I was honestly really excited about getting him, yes...despite saying how much I thought the line sucked before buying one... I was actually excited to get him. This was due to two reasons:
1 It was Hordak
2 I had spent £22 on him.
So anyway getting back to it I took him out of his white mailer box and got my first look at an actual MOTUC figure and it looked good. Not "YEAH AWESOME" good, just good. Not brilliant but also not awful, just good. The packaging was also pretty nice but I really dn't see what the big deal is as to me it is just a lump of plastic and card to keep the figure safe in until it arrives at your home. Still people seem to like the packaging and I guess if you are a MOC collector having it look nice is important but to me it was just...there, it served its purpose.
Of course I am not a MOC collector because I actually like to see all of my figure and not just the front of it so as soon as I had shelf space to put him on I ripped him open and again was pleasantly surprised. In the flesh (well plastic) the figure looked good tho still just as good as it did in its packaging which means not good in the brilliant way just in the average way. Being able to move it around a bit really didn't make me think it looked any better it was now just in a different pose and not covered in plastic.
So anyway I played with it for a short while, even swapping its weapons with the 200x (FAR SUPERIOR ) Neca Staction Hordak and for a few hours actually had fun playing with a He-Man toy. I have to admit that felt pretty...normal for me actually. To be honest I have never grown up so playing with a He-Man toy should make me feel nostalgic and recall my childhood but it seemed just normal to me. Still after many many many different poses (and 1001 attempts to get that red bat thingy to sit on his arm) I finally decided to pick a pose and stick him on his shelf
So my pose picked I gently placed him on his shelf and...
Well that was it. After all the hype, the fuss and the waiting once I had seen him for a few hours and placed him on his shelf I pretty much forgot about him. My 200x figures, my Naruto stuff, my Spawn and my Beasts and Beings mini statuette thingys I look at over and over again but MOTUC Hordak was just forgotten about pretty much as soon as I put him down.
Then a few days ago for some unknown reason he decided to leap off the shelf. He had been sitting there being happily ignored for quite a while but he had decided "fuck that shit" and jumped to the floor. Was my reaction "Oh crap I better go and see if my £20 figure is okay"?
no
I looked at it lying on the floor and thought "I will pick it up shortly"
seriously this is my review of MOTUC Hordak
(sarcasm alert)
"MOTUC Hordak - the figure that is so great if it falls on the floor...who gives a shit?"
And that is my thought on Hordak.
